About

2011-82104902-1.jpg

I was born and raised in Benton Harbor, MI, I had a rough childhood, some of it pressed upon me, other times I made bad decisions. I have wrestled through Christianity since the age of 12. Embracing everything from Oneness Pentecostalism, Word of Faith and as the past 4 years Reformed. My latest journey began about a year ago, when I was introduced to New Covenant Theology. I have been married for 9 years and have two children. Lionel Jr (13) and Caleb Christian (2). I pray that this blog will spark some discussion about biblical faithfulness, the African American experience, and Reformed New Covenant Theology.  My contact information is below

    Hi,
I just wanted to stop by and say thanks for this blog. I have been visiting here and Pulpit Pimps and have been very encouraged. Since my husband and I got married 11 years ago we have been to all kinds of churches. Mostly WOF churches but slowly God has shown us that we were not where He wanted us. We began searching the scriptures for ourselves and found out that what we were being taught didn’t exactly line up with His Word. When we began on our homeschool journey(we have 5 children 9 and under), we really started finding out about God’s position on a lot of things. The churches that we attended were more about the emotional experience than teaching sound doctrine. We are starting to learn about being reformed. Never knew there was a such thing, let alone being Black and Reformed (We are AA too).

Now we are visiting a Sovereign Grace Ministries church and we really love it. I have looked at their belief statement but can’t tell if they are reformed or not. It looks like they line up with the TULIP. Do you know much about this ministry? Thanks for your time and your blog. We are growing and enjoying looking up all of the scriptures. God bless you and your family (beautiful photo, btw).

Yes, Yes, Yes! They are reformed and they love the Lord. CJ Mahaney is the best and so is Pastor Rick G. These guys have been a blessing to me. They have a great worship music ministry and the “cross centered” brand is theirs. They have a passion for holiness and God’s glory. You are in luck that you found one. They are predominately white but are doing a lot to change that. I pray that you and your husband will grow in that ministry. God bless and stay in contact. I listen to these guys frequently and the best sermons I have ever heard on Idolatry and Humility goes to C.J Mahaney. Dave Harvey also has a book called “When Sinners Say I do” that has taken the marriage arena by storm. I double endorse these guys!!!

Thanks for the info. I love listening to their music and sermons on line. I just finished reading Cross-Centered Life last night. This book changed my life! We loved the church we visited so much. There aren’t alot of AAs there but everyone was so warm and friendly. People just started coming up to us and introducing themselves. I told my hubby, “wow, wonder how everyone knows that we are new here?” He was looking like are you serious, look around? We are looking forward to sit under this ministry. God bless you and your family.

    Dear Lionel
I find your blog very interesting. Question How do you deal with Reform Theology vs Reformed
practice. Ive noticed that alot of blogs, encourage reform theology but fail to make the link to reform practice. Can we have that type of mindset! One Love Pastor Xerxes.
